The Land of Elephants

Located near the renowned Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple, the Punnathurkotta is a favourite destination among elephant lovers. The ancient traditional Kerala-style palace now serves as a centre for elephants, namely Anakotta (elephant fort). It houses 59 elephants on 11.5 acres that were offered to Lord Guruvayurappan by his followers. 

The Elephant Camp is located at a distance of 3 km from the Guruvayur Temple. During the month of July, elephants receive special Ayurvedic treatment. There is also a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and Bhagavathy in this complex.
