Located 23 km away from Thrissur town, it was constructed under the then-prime minister of the independent state of Cochin, E. Ikkanda Warrier. Built across the Manali river with a catchment area of nearly 3,200 acres, it facilitates drinking water and irrigation purposes in the locality. But with the Peechi-Vazhani Wildlife Sanctuary closeby, tourists are drawn to the natural landscape.
The dam is best visited when the shutters are open as the water cascade is a breathtaking sight with the greenery in the background. A children’s park and a garden with a viewpoint are also attractions here with a minimal entrance fee, making it perfect for a family trip. Refreshment stalls and a parking area add to the overall experience. Various walking trails await once you reach the pavilion, humbly welcoming you to enjoy the dam, park, and garden with the statue of Parasurama. Even though cameras are not allowed into the dam area, phones are permitted.
